ABCs of Baking: Q for Questions

ABCs of Baking: Q for Questions

This is a special episode, because for the letter Q, we’re answering a few of the burning Questions you submitted on social media.

How can you tell when a cookie is done?

Great question! To get that signature Milk Jar Cookies crispy edge and doughy center combination, look for small, hairline cracks originating from the edge and reaching about an inch toward the center. Once you see those, remove your cookies from the oven, let them cool and dig in!

What is Courtney’s favorite cookie?

That’s like asking me to choose a favorite child! Honestly, it changes all the time because I love them all so much. But, if I have to pick one right now, I would say Rocky Road. I love my “just-sweet-enough” chocolate dough, and the gooey chocolate chips and marshmallows mix with the crunch of the almonds to make it such a delightful experience. Next time, can I create my perfect half dozen instead so it’s not so hard to choose?

How important is the size of the baking pan?

Oooh, I love this question! The size of the baking pan makes a big difference when baking cakes and brownies, especially. When a recipe calls for a specific size pan, that is most closely tied to the baking time for the recipe. If your pan is larger, your product will bake faster than the listed time because it will be thinner. If your pan is smaller, it will need a few more minutes in the oven.

Can I recommend a new flavor?

Of course! I love a new challenge, so if you have a fun idea for a new flavor, send me a message on social media at @milkjarcookies. Maybe that's a fun idea for a future video, too! You send me crazy suggestions that I have to turn into a cookie. Yeah, I like that idea!
